Since August 2024, Frank Hartmann is Head of Division for Asia and the Pacific at the Federal Foreign Office. Previously, he was Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Crisis Officer at the Federal Foreign Office and Head of the Division for the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Latin America at the Federal Chancellery in Berlin. Before that, he was Head of the East Asia Division at the Federal Foreign Office, Head of the Press and Information Department at the German Embassy in Beijing and Deputy Head of Division for Central Europe and the Benelux countries at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin.
Other professional positions include his role as Head of Cabinet of the High Representative and EU Special Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo and as Political Counselor at the German Embassy in Tokyo. Frank Hartmann studied International Relations and Chinese Studies at the Free University of Berlin and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
